“When Good is Not Good Enough”

Bill Shore, Amy Celep and Darrell Hammond provided an inspiring webinar on Oct 8/13 as a follow up to their article “When Good is Not Good Enough”. Their success and practical advice demonstrates that with the right shift in thinking, the “big vision” and “bold goal”, moving from incremental to transformational change, is within our grasp. I was particularly struck by the need for organizations to collaborate in order to achieve the necessary scale to change behaviour or the norms. In addition, the need for good data and performance metrics to support and measure progress appears to be a key criteria for success and as with any change initiative, leadership  and commitment are crucial. As social service agencies in Ontario continue to struggle with funding constraints, this may be a way forward to changing service delivery models and organizations to create sustainable change.

As noted in the Staffing Trends Report, the good news is that staffing levels have remained steady despite the economy. Challenges, particularly for smaller organizations, continue to be competitive compensation, obtaining the right skills and advancement opportunities.
